The Tsunami Relief centres here have been overwhelmed by the amount of clothes, money and essentials that have been pouring in since Monday. Thank you Singapore and the rest of the world for the compassion and love you've all showed to our nieghbours in need. I've realised that people are'nt all dead and unfeeling yet. I've rummaged through my wardrobe and pulled out all the old 90s fashion disaster clothes that I have been too much of a sentimental wuss to throw out after all these years. Oh wait a minute, the 90's didn't have fashion. There was punk, there was grunge, and everything else in between. Anyway, I'm digressing, that's not the point.
Had a discussion with mofo yesterday, and he said that after this whole thing blows over, people are going to start to ask the quintessential question "WHY?"
Lack of a natural disaster defence/warning infrastructure, fingers will be pointed, rebuttals will be made, Christians will question God's intentions.
As it's the end of the year, and we all sit back an reasses 2004 and reflect on hits and misses of the year, I couldn't help but liken this whole Disaster to the Sodom and Gommorah story. Ah, but that's the whole lengthy debate for another time. Meanwhile, it's going to be a low key New Years This year, PM Lee even asked that the fireworks be held off for all celebrations island wide. It's the least we can do. Our hearts go out to the thousands.
Happy New Year Folks,
Enjoy yourselves,
And hold close the ones you love.
