The Tsunami Relief centres here have been overwhelmed by the amount of clothes, money and essentials that have been pouring in since Monday. Thank you Singapore and the rest of the world for the compassion and love you've all showed to our nieghbours in need. I've realised that people are'nt all dead and unfeeling yet. I've rummaged through my wardrobe and pulled out all the old 90s fashion disaster clothes that I have been too much of a sentimental wuss to throw out after all these years. Oh wait a minute, the 90's didn't have fashion. There was punk, there was grunge, and everything else in between. Anyway, I'm digressing, that's not the point.

Had a discussion with mofo yesterday, and he said that after this whole thing blows over, people are going to start to ask the quintessential question "WHY?"
Lack of a natural disaster defence/warning infrastructure, fingers will be pointed, rebuttals will be made, Christians will question God's intentions.
As it's the end of the year, and we all sit back an reasses 2004 and reflect on hits and misses of the year, I couldn't help but liken this whole Disaster to the Sodom and Gommorah story. Ah, but that's the whole lengthy debate for another time. Meanwhile, it's going to be a low key New Years This year, PM Lee even asked that the fireworks be held off for all celebrations island wide. It's the least we can do. Our hearts go out to the thousands.

Happy New Year Folks,
Enjoy yourselves,
And hold close the ones you love.

Dad hit into someone yesterday, so his front bumper's dented and has to leave it in the workshop over the festive weekend, needless to say, he's feeling a little crippled without his trusty companion, having to cab/car pool to the golf course and bus to work (Yes, mom refuses to pamper him).

So this brought about a revalation of sorts when he had to take the bus to work this morning.
He walked into the kitchen looking quite worried last night and said:

"So do any of you know how much it is to city hall? Do i press for the ticket myself? Will the bus driver give me change?"

Like a frightened little school boy, he was shuffling his feet and giving my mom and I this sheepish look. My mother had to give him exact change and we had to tell him how taking public transport in Singapore actually works.

Now, my father is the sweetest, humblest man, bless his little soul. He had a very trying childhood, and since the days where the family only had lunch every other day, he vowed to have a successful career and give his parents a comfortable retired life. Well, the man certainly has kept true to his adolecent promises, and grandpa and grandma have been very well taken care of all these years.

Which brings me back to the whole taking bus saga. One would think that him not being able to take public transport would equate to a rather spoilt middle aged old man. But, my dad has this whole genuine innocence to his predicament. He walked with me to the bus stop this morning, and even helped me carry the bags of christmas gifts for the collegues. I waited with him till the bus came, hugged him good bye and asked if he would be ok.
Although it seems a little too early, somehow, the roles of parenting seems to have reversed slightly.

It's been a whirlwind weekend of events, and I took 2 days off from work to indulge in the festivities.
Pam our favourite KL girl, much to our delight, travelled down south and paid us a 4 day visit!
Edwin and Jen got married on Sunday, the 12th with a lovely simple church wedding at St. Francis of Assisi, and dinner at the Grand Hyatt after. The dinner was absolutely gorgeous! Trust Edwin to plan out a scrumptious spread with a beautiful 3 tier chocolate wedding cake covered in divine fluffy white cream for dessert (on top of the green tea pudding with blueberries, rasbeberries and strawberries we already had for sweets).

Prior to the wedding on Sunday, us girls took a trip to Batam where we we spoilt silly with spa treatments. We started off at this Salon called Rudy's, where the hair stylists treated our locks with rich moisturizing avocado/aloe vera/ginseng paste and put it to steam whilst giving us a 45mins of head, neck, shoulder arm and hand massage. Pam had this body-builder-turned-woman-esque auntie tending to her, so needless to say, she felt "tenderized" after the session :) After an enormous lunch which we washed down with avocado shakes, we proceeded to the hotel to have a full body scrub and aromatherapy massage...and the best bit? we all spent just slightly under $100 each!

We spent much of sunday busy-ing ourselves with the wedding and were all quite knackered at the end of the night but we still found the energy to have drinks at Chijmes after.

I love Christmas.
The fact that my grandmother cooks her delicious oxtail stew and that we have 2 days of partying at home with the family is enough to make me smile. 2 years ago, my christmas was made even more special when I started dating baby. 2004 has been a very difficult year for us, wrecking all aspects of our lives. Perhaps its the year end melancholy or the lamb curry I just ate, I am, in a strange way, very grateful for everything that has happened to us. I am glad we both hung on and worked things though. We are still a work in progress, but I know that with a little magic and a WHOLE LOTA LURVIN', we may just work our way to the rest of our lives.
Who knows?
After all, it IS Christmas.
